Southern Area of Rooksdown adopted by Hampshire Highways

The Southern Area of Rooksdown has finally been “adopted to be maintained at the public expense” by Hampshire County Council.  This means that repairs, street lamps that don’t work, etc will be dealt with by Hampshire rather than by the developer.  See the adoption certificate and plan for details.

If anything in these areas needs attention, the quickest way of getting it dealt with is to report it on the FixMyStreet website.

Council Meeting 24 June 2019

The agenda and papers for the 24 June meeting of Rooksdown Parish Council can be found here. Main items to be discussed are:

  • Improvements to the skatepark
  • Further discussion on the proposed No Right Turn into Rooksdown Lane

As usual, all are welcome – 1930 in the Community Centre Youth Room

“No Right Turn” from A339 into Rooksdown Lane?

As part of the Manydown development, the developers are proposing making the junction between the A339 and Rooksdown Lane into a No Right Turn, coming from Basingstoke. This will divert an excessive amount of traffic through Rooksdown.  For more information, see the letter the Parish Council sent to residents of the affected area in May.

The Parish Council has also submitted a formal response to the planning authorities.

Financial and Audit documents

The Internal Audit of the Parish Council is now complete and the documents have been submitted for the External Audit.  As part of this process we are publishing:

Further Response to Planning Application 17/00818/OUT

the council has made a further response to the application to prevent the right turn into Rooksdown lane from the A339:

  • The No Right Turn from the A339 into Rooksdown Lane means that all traffic from the south heading to Weybrook Park Golf Club, including cars and delivery vehicles, will access the club via Rooksdown Avenue and Gillies Drive, using residential roads that were not intended for this purpose. This would appear to transfer safety issues from the A339 to narrow residential streets and is unacceptable to the residents.
